Did you know that there are 500 million blogs online, yet only 1.7 billion websites? That’s almost a 1:3 ratio. Starting your blogs with facts and statistics will no doubt make your readers want more.
Blogging is a great way to share your knowledge, expertise, or passion with the world. It’s also an excellent platform for building relationships with bloggers and clients. But if you want people to read what you write on your blog, it needs to be engaging!
Here are five ways that will help improve your blog writing:
1. Write for Your Audience
You’re writing a blog post or article because you want people to read it. So write in such a way that they’re interested in reading what you have written.
Suppose you are trying too hard to impress them with how smart you think you are. Chances are they won’t care about anything else you say.
Instead of thinking, “how can I make this interesting?” try asking yourself: “what is the most important thing here that my audience needs to know right now?” Then focus on communicating that information clearly and concisely.
2. Show Intent
The intent is all about the purpose of your content. It allows the reader to understand the flow of the article.
It can be as simple as wanting to learn something new. But more often than not, readers find articles and share their thoughts on social media. Sharing articles is a form of engagement.
High-quality blog editing can make or break an article. Use tools such as Hemingwayapp.com or Grammarly to enhance your language. And, if you’re writing something a little more risque, check to see if search engines block some words.
3. Give Every Picture a Purpose
Free stock images are a great way to enhance your blog content. But too many people stick to a generic image at the header and nothing else.
You can use pictures to break up the text. But also, think about how the blog formatting serves the content. Does it make it easier to understand, for example?
4. Focus on Hook Lines
The best content writing always starts with a catchy hook line and a call-to-action at the end. With the intro line, try using open-ended questions or statistics.
These facts draw the reader into the conversation. Or, for the call-to-action, write an engaging line with a pun related to the article.
If your blog serves the purpose of keeping people on your site for longer, then encourage them to read more content (as we do on ours!). Or, if it’s promoting a product, you can include a clickable discount offer or add it to the basket at the end as well!
5. Be Consistent
It may seem obvious, but consistency is key. Don’t change things around every week.
Stick to one style throughout all your articles. And even within the same article, make sure you’re focusing on one tense such as 3rd person.
Quality Blog Writing Is Rewarding
Writing good-quality posts takes time and effort. Yet, once you’ve got some experience under your belt, you’ll find that blog writing becomes second nature. Good luck! The tips above should give you a head start to improve your blog writing skills.
