How to Stay Focused at Home

Many of us are well accustomed to working from home now, and office life seems like a distant memory, especially to those who have decided to make this a permanent thing.

That being said, home is where all of the distractions are, which can be difficult for those who are even the strongest of willed when it comes to being focused, let alone those who have the attention span of a child in a swimming lesson.

This piece will offer some tips on how you can stay focused at home, so you can get what needs to be done in record time and still have time for a power nap.

How to Stay Focused at Home

Put Your Phone on Do Not Disturb

It can be so easy to pick up your phone and scroll through TikTok after doing five minutes of work just because it’s *right there*. Then you might just decide to check your emails, reply to a text, and before you know it, you have scrolled through Instagram for twenty minutes when you could have got twenty minutes of work done. Yes, you might have found a new recipe you would like to try, but now that is another twenty minutes added on to your day at your laptop.

Putting your phone on do not disturb, or even airplane mode, if you are feeling particularly bold, can help remove those distractions that pop up so that you can focus on what is in front of you. You can also get hold of apps that lock your phone for a certain amount of time if you really struggle to put it down no matter what you try. You will be surprised how much faster you complete your work when you take away your phone as a distraction.

Relocate

Working from home is not always the peaceful environment we envisage. Whether we have next-door neighbors who have decided to do all day long renovations, children on school holidays, or even a partner who is also working from home and has several long video meetings a day, there can be a distraction loud enough and long enough to make working from home feel like working in an office.

If this is the case, look for something temporary, such as a hot desk from thebrew.co.uk.

You only need to pay as you go, there are no contracts, and you also get some excellent amenities included in the price. Hot desks provide you with a professional space where you can work amongst like-minded people in a relaxed environment and also get that added socialization that you would not get while you were at home – but on your own terms!

Set Yourself Goals

Setting yourself mini-goals that you can reach gives your mind something to focus on throughout the day. Instead of saying you need x, x, and x done by the end of the day, breaking those items down into the smallest of goals can help deter any distractions or mad rushes at the end of the day.
