Citrix ADCs can either be in the cloud or on-premises. They are supposed to be universal, meaning that Citrix claims you can use them to create the best possible user experience anywhere.
Problems with Citrix ADC
Here’s the problem. Citrix might be popular, but if we were making an ADC tier list, they would not be at the top.
There are a few reasons for that. First, if you want to program the Citrix ADC server, you need to purchase an entirely separate appliance called a Citrix ADC API.
Without an API, you won’t be able to configure the Citrix ADC, at least not as easily. That means there are hidden costs to a Citrix ADC.
Second, the licensing for Citrix ADCs is overly complicated. That’s especially true for on-premises ADCs.
That means that if you’re installing a Citrix ADC, it may take more time and money to sort out the licensing than it’s worth.
Alternatives to Citrix ADC
There are better, less complicated ways to control application delivery.
You can start by looking for a product that doesn’t have the same complicated licensing issues as Citrix. A streamlined ADC system can solve that problem for you.
You should also look for a product that doesn’t require hardware or software to function. It should be universal, meaning that it works with any device in any location, whether it’s in the cloud or on-premises.

Finding the Right ADC Product
It’s no secret that ADCs are essential to making sure that a server or microservice runs smoothly. But you don’t have to go for the first product line you find.
